RUN FOR COVER

The sun can turn a healthy habit into a harmful one. Here's how to avoid the burn.

Apply Yourself

Runners don't need to wear helmets or padding, but that doesn't mean we don't need protection. Mark Rubin, M.D., a dermatologist at the University of California at San Diego, says runners should wear a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. "SPF 15 is fine for some people, but runners usually don't apply enough and don't want to reapply during a run, so they need more protection," he says. If you avoid or skimp on sunscreen because you don't like the goopy feel of it, try these new lightweight, sweat-proof versions. --Logan Plaster

Shiseido Ultimate
Sun Protection Cream for Face
SPF 55 - Light texture makes it a worthy splurge if you like your face to feel naked.

Coppertone Sport Ultra
SPF 30 - Applies smoothly and absorbs quickly. The strong, beachy scent might be overwhelming for some.

BullFrog Quik Gel
SPF 36 - Glides on as a cool, clear gel that's instantly invisible. Smells a bit like bug repellent, but the scent wears off quickly.

Banana Boat Quik Dry Sport
SPF 30 - Spray-bottle sunscreen is clear and rub-free, so your hands don't do any of the dirty work.

Hawaiian Tropic Ozone Sport
SPF 60+ - Ultra-protective and comes with a snap-off travel bottle. Goes on white, but blends easily.

BodyGlide
SPF 25 - A great sunblock/lube combo for smaller areas that chafe. Pair it with a regular sunscreen for full-body protection.
