ON THE ROAD: ANCHORAGE, ALASKA

This city has more than 120 miles of paved trails, that link throughout the city. On more remote trails, watch out for moose and bears.

Tour Guide: Mike Halko of the anchorage running club

Run 1: Delaney Park (2.5 miles): From Town Square Park run south on F Street. Turn right on 9th Avenue and run along Delaney Park, which once served as Anchorage's first airport. Make left turns on P Street, 10th Avenue, A Street, and 9th Avenue. Turn right on E Street. Turn left on 5th Avenue and return to the start.

Run 2 Tony Knowles Coastal Trail (5 miles): From the main parking lot at Westchester Lagoon, follow the paved Coastal Trail southwest. Turn around at the Earthquake Park Memorial, located on the bluff overlooking the inlet, and return to the start.

Run 3 Chester Creek Greenbelt (8 miles): From the main parking lot at Westchester Lagoon, follow the paved Chester Creek Greenbelt east. The trail has markers at every half mile and offers great views of the Chugach Mountains. At Goose Lake Park, turn around and return to the start.
