ON THE ROAD: FLAGSTAFF, ARIZONA

From a trail run that climbs 600 feet to a flat run in Buffalo Park, there's something for every runner in Flagstaff.

PUBLISHED 08/13/2007

Tour Guide:
Neil Weintraub, Director, the Northern Arizona Trail Runners Association

Runs:

1. Buffalo Park (2 miles): From the buffalo statue in the Buffalo Park parking lot, follow the two-mile crushed-cinder trail counter-clockwise as it circles the park. The main loop connects to several miles of trails that wind throughout the San Francisco Peaks.

2. Schultz Creek Trail (7 miles): Park in the dirt pullout off Schultz Pass Road, just past the last private home on the right. Follow the Schultz Creek Trail north as it parallels the dirt road. When the trail intersects with a forest service road on the right, turn around and return to the start.

3. Sinclair Wash (4.5 miles): From the Wal-Mart off Beulah Boulevard, follow the trail along West McConnell Drive. Pass Northern Arizona University, and then follow the trail as it heads north and crosses South Lone Tree Road past South Brannen Circle. Turn around when the trail reaches Interstate 40 and return to the start.
