ON THE ROAD: TUCSON, ARIZONA

Head to Tucson, Arizona for some superb trail running

Photographs by Dieter Braun

PUBLISHED 01/25/2008

Tour Guide: Randy Accetta, President of the Southern Arizona Roadrunners

Run 1: Randolph Golf Course Loop (3 miles):
From Hi Corbett Baseball Field in Reid Park, follow the paved David Bell path north to circle Randolph Municipal Golf Course. The loop has mileage markers every quarter mile.

Run 2: Sabino Canyon (7.4 miles):
From the Sabino Canyon Visitor Center, follow the paved canyon road as it winds northeast through the park, offering spectacular views of the Catalina Mountains. Turn around when the road ends and return to the start. Recent floods damaged the road beyond mile two, limiting vehicle access, but runners can still tackle the entire length.

Run 3: Rillito River Path (10 miles): Start on the northeast corner of Campbell Avenue and River Road, across from St. Philip's Plaza. Head east along the paved path that parallels the north bank of the Rillito River, which is usually dry, to Craycroft Road. Turn around and return to the start.
