Courtney Holden takes on the marathon in order to survive

Beyond the elite ranks are tens of thousands of Chicago Marathoners with their own reasons for making the 26.2-mile quest. One is Courtney Holden, an English major at Illinois Wesleyan. Her mother and grandmother died of ovarian cancer, and she'll be running to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. She ran Chicago in 2005, too, and discovered that "for the last six miles, it's like 'good luck!'" Her workouts are a combination of running, jumping rope, and exercise classes - about two hours of cardiovascular activity each day.
