THE FINISH LINE (NON CHIP)

PUBLISHED 06/09/2008

Place a digital clock at the finish line so that runners know their time right away. Your finish line should be clearly demarcated so that there's no confusion.

As each runner crosses the finish line, a time and place will be recorded by the electronic timer and transmitted into the computer. Runners should be encouraged to move quickly through the chute and remove their tags by themselves. An official should be waiting at the end of the chute to collect the tags. One person should collect the tags and place them face down in the proper sequence on a stringer, being careful to keep them in the proper sequence. As numbers are collected, someone should take them directly to the computer for input, numbering the tags carefully to avoid skipping or duplicating a number.

After numbering, the tags can be removed from the other end of the stringer and posted to your results board. This should begin immediately. The board should have each age group and each race distance and post the winners in each group

Your awards ceremony can begin as soon as the last award winner has been posted.
