I HAVE TONS OF OLD RUNNING SHOES I CAN'T BRING MYSELF TO THROW AWAY. IT'S DRIVING MY WIFE CRAZY! WHAT SHOULD I DO?

PUBLISHED 09/11/2006

--Dustin C., Layton, Utah

The real reason you want to keep your shoes is for the memories--not the function. So save two pairs for yard work and tubing trips and donate the rest. Ask if your running club has a donation program. If not, send your shoes to RW HQ, and we'll get them to runners in need or recycle them into track material (see runnersworld.com/shoedonation). If it makes things easier, take a photo of each pair before saying goodbye. In the end, your wife--not to mention your shoe closet--will make much less of a stink.
