NEUTRAL-CUSHIONED

Reebok Premier Cushioning V
We Say: This update has a new last that is narrower in the heel and through the midfoot for a snug fit. Reebok improved the shoe's durability by adding sections of heavy-duty foam under the heel and forefoot. Some testers felt the upper was stiff even though the shoe uses memory foam in the collar and molded foam in the tongue to better distribute pressure over the top of the foot. Recommended for runners with high arches looking for a durable everyday trainer.
Wear-testers Say: "I really like how the shoe fit, and it had great cushioning." --Mike Richmond, 42, East Lansing
"Good durability, but the tongue needs more cushioning." --Katey Fryzol, 21, Allentown

BEST BUY: Reebok Premier Fusion II
We Say: The Fusion is a basic, durable cushioning shoe with a good fit. The outsole is made from carbon-based rubber, and there is a layer of foam under the sockliner for a cushy feel underfoot. RW Shoe Lab tests show that it's one of the softest shoes in this guide. It's also built lower to the ground for a fast racing feel. Recommended for efficient runners with high arches looking for a basic trainer at a very reasonable price.
Wear-testers Say: "I liked them as much after 200 miles as I did right out of the box." --Lance Blaskowski, 25, Allentown
"It had a nice internal feel with a snug heel and roomy toe area, but it seemed a bit too soft for long runs."--Joe Hammond, 55, East Lansing
Price: $75

Weight: 10.8 oz (M) 9.1 oz (W)

Saucony Grid Shadow 2
We Say: Saucony reduced the amount of durable rubber in the midsole of this update, using it only where runners need it most--in the heel and forefoot. This drops the weight of the shoe by nearly an ounce. Our testers didn't notice a difference, however. What they did comment on was the shoe's stability--a result of a midsole that's filled in under the arch to provide more surface contact with the ground. Recommended for bigger runners with normal arches or those looking for plenty of room to accommodate orthotics.
Wear-testers Say: "Excellent breathability, but they felt a bit too roomy." --Monica Newman, 25, Allentown
"They had a smooth, supportive ride." --Linda Mummaw, 46, East Lansing
