We say: You'll find most of the improvements to this perennial RW award winner in the midsole. Asics reinforced the arch, so the latest Trabuco is more supportive. The manufacturer also reinforced and repositioned the forefoot grooves for better flexibility and stability. RW Shoe Lab tests confirmed that the IX is more flexible than past versions, as well as firmer in the heel (a good thing, as some wear-testers thought the VIII was too soft). Recommended for runners with normal to low arches looking for a hybrid trail shoe that does just as well on roads as on less-rugged trail surfaces.
Wear-tester says: "The shoe fit fine, but it could've been a bit lighter."--Ron Horn, 55, Reading
