New Balance 817
Manufacturer: New Balance
Price: $90

We Say: As the only entry in the motion-control category, it's not surprising that the 817 is the firmest and stiffest shoe we tested. This update features a new sockliner made of memory foam for a softer, more customized feel, and a new upper liner that surrounds the foot to reduce blister risk. New Balance updated the midfoot area with two independent nylon bands that run from the laces down into the midsole, under the arch for added stability. Recommended for heavier runners with flat aches looking for maximum motion control.
Wear-testers Say: "The shoe maintained the same cushioning from the first to the last mile."--Helen Capparell, 39, Allentown
"It fit my wide foot exceptionally well."--L.A. Anderson, 48, East Lansing
